How is Punggi Ginseng Made?
Punggi Ginseng has been known as the high-quality product, which it comparatively has little water inside ginseng and solid tissue.
These are caused by unique harvest time. Punggi ginseng cultivated on fully organic land in the Sobaek Mountains has more weight because we harvested solid-tissue ginseng, which is removed unnecessary water accumulated during summer, after Baekro when fall comes.
What Superiorities of Punggi Ginseng scientifically proved:

2 |
Second, Punggi ginseng is adequate for processing materials with solid tissue and heavy weight of ginseng and has superior effects. |
3 |
Third, red ginseng made from Punggi ginseng does not get soft by boiling it twice, three times with decocting machine, and decocted Punggi ginseng is higher in concentration than other decocted ginseng the same amount. |
History of Punggi Ginseng
It is said in Samguksagi that wild ginseng was presented to King Hyunje of Tang by Chung Shin Kim as Hajeongsa in A.D. 734 (King Seongdeok of Shilla's 33 year reign), therefore it is believed that Korean Red Ginseng was grown in the Sobaek Mountains during the Shilla age.
As wild ginseng's charcter was changed from present to tributary payment, China required more ginseng with more frequency, therefore there were serious abuses like giving up farming because farmers sold farm to secure ginseng and bought ginseng for tributary payment.
To prevent those abuses Se Bung Ju, Shinje, at the Joseon age, under reign of King Jungjong, looked for similar land that ginseng grows on and climate for ginseng to produce ginseng artificially for supplying needs. And he investigated soil and climate of Punggi as a governor of Punggi in 1541 and he discovered that there were many growing wild ginsengs and Punggi was suitable for ginseng cultivation. And ginseng has been cultivated in Punggi as the first place where people gathered wild ginseng seeds and started to cultivate ginseng since then. There is a record that the Royal used only Punggi ginseng in the Joseon Dynasty.
Judging from this Punggi is the origin of ginseng cultivation and Se Bung Ju, Shinje, is worshiped as the father of ginseng cultivation. (Monument was erected in memory of Se Bung Ju, Shinje, at open space of Punggi ginseng NACF. Now Punggi ginseng is known as superior ginseng.
